Stem Cell FAQ

What are Stem Cells?

In simple terms, Stem Cells are specialized cells that are found in most of your bodies tissues whose purpose is for repairing and restoring damaged or impaired tissue as part of normal function. They can transform themselves into different types of tissues when needed. For example: Stem cells in your fat can turn into fat cells when old cells die or are damaged. They also can transform themselves into blood vessels, bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon and other types of tissues when they are harvested and relocated as occurs in a stem cell transplant or therapy.

What types of Stem Cells do you use?

The choice of stem cells depends on what condition we are treating.

Is Stem Cell Therapy approved by the FDA?

The FDA approves devices and drugs. It does not regulate treatments provided by licensed physicians. Nonetheless, the FDA has published a set of guidances for cellular therapy. Cellular therapies offered in our clinic are administered according to the latest guidances.

Are Stem Cell Treatments safe?

To date, in thousands of treatments using the techniques we offer, there have been no adverse effects other than minor bruising or pain at the procedure site.

Can Stem Cells develop into Cancer?

There are no known cases of this occurring using our techniques.

Why are Stem Cell Therapies so expensive?

Harvesting Stem Cells takes personnel, time, supplies and specialized reagents and equipment. The extra care and processes we use to prepare your cells for optimal effectiveness is time consuming and expensive. We want your treatment to be effective and work as well as possible. While we can never give a guarantee of success, we pride ourselves in our patients’ satisfaction. Many of our patients come back to us to treat other problems or to get even better results by repeating treatment. Quality costs. We offer the highest quality of care in the industry and treat every patient as part of our family. We want you to feel great again.

How long have you been treating patients with Stem Cells?

Dr. Lobe spent over 20 years working at St. Jude on children with Stem Cell treatments for cancer and other conditions. The office procedures now offer have been available since 2010 at which time we began to offer Stem Cell therapy to our patients in the office setting.

 Anti Aging Medicine

How is age measured?

There are several different ways to measure age. The simplest is to count the years. But we all know that your chronological age doesn’t tell the whole story. There are 56 year olds who look like they are 40 and there are others who look like they are 70. The best test of aging today appears to be a test of telomere length. As it turns out, our telomeres, the caps on the ends of the DNA strands that instruct the cells to divide can be used to give us a sense of our biological age. Another way to measure age is to look at your vascular reactivity. The greater the flexibility and thus reactivity, the younger you likely are.

How many years can you extend a persons life with anti aging measures?

This depends on how intensive a program you want and are willing to embark on. To help someone look 2-5 years younger is relatively simple. To help someone look, feel, and act 7-20 years younger is a more intense program that once started, you typically do not want to stop.

Can I be on anti aging supplements when I have a medical condition?

We take all health considerations into account when we evaluate and make treatment recommendations. It’s safe to say that everything we do takes safety into consideration. Everything is evidence based, taking into account what are the most effective ways to reduce the risk of disease. When there is any concern or contraindication for a treatment, we will advise you of your risks or advise you to discontinue specific parts of the program.

How long should I be on an anti aging program?

That’s like asking “How long should I keep my heart beating?” Anti aging is a lifestyle. Once you start and everyone notices how good you look and feel, why would you ever want to stop?

 Hormone Therapy

What is involved with hormone therapy?

Our entire physiology is regulated by our hormones and their interactions with one another. We take into account over 30 different hormones (including precursors and metabolites), when we prescribe a program for someone. We always use hormones that are equal or similar to those our body produces naturally in order to foster a natural and safe transition to a younger you.

I want to get off prempro, where do I start?

You can start by making an appointment and letting us review your case. Then we will take a careful medical history and obtain appropriate labs in order to guide on the path to wellness.

What are the cognitive enhancers?

One of the telltale signs of aging is that the speed with which we think begins to slow down and run out of juice. Cognitive enhancers are substances that improve the speed of your brain waves and your mental acuity. They can be in the form of nutrietns, supplements, hormones, and in selected cases safe pharmaceuticals.

What about the risks of bioidentical hormone therapy?

The question should be, “What are the risks of NOT doing bioidentical hormone therapy?” If you do not use hormones to maintain your balance, you will age more quickly, have less energy, have symptoms of menopause or andropause, and increase your risk for disease. We monitor you closely, thus your risks on BHRT are minimal. We are happy to discus these in detail with you in person or on the phone.

When should I think about replacing/balancing hormones?

The ideal time to begin thinking about your hormones is before you begin to lose them. For most of us, this is about 30-35 years of age. At that age, we focus more in measurement and prevention of loss.

Is diet and exercise important?

We mentioned earlier that anti aging is a lifestyle. Proper nutrition and exercise are essential components to a comprehensive program.

 Cost, Safety, and Time

Are the treatments covered by insurance?

Whenever possible, we try to make use of your insurance. The fact is that few insurance companies pay for prevention or longevity. We are a cash based practice and with the exception of some consultation services, none of our treatments are covered by your insurance.

What are the comprehensive tests before prescribing a treatment regimen?

Dr. Lobe will spend several hours with you learning your history, discovering what has worked in the past and what has not, identifying realistic goals, and establishing a timetable that will serve as a reference for both you and the doctor to develop the perfect program for you. The comprehensive examination is essential to identify the early physical manifestations of the aging process in your skin and other tissues of which you may not be aware. We will determine your genome through genetic testing and use that information to identify specific health risks and inherited metabolic derangements that directly affect your rate of aging. In many cases, we will want to assess the way your body metabolizes your hormones in specific ways. This allows us to determine dangerous patterns that can promote cancer and disease and to modify your program to reduce your risks. We will also examine the tissue concentrations of important nutrients in your system, how your immune system supports or impairs your body’s function, and how well your neurotransmitters are supporting your overall goals.

Is it safe?

We do not take risks with your health or subject you to any known risks. Everything we do takes into account reducing your risks of disease and improving your condition.

How long will it take?

Since it took you decades to look older, you shouldn’t expect a credible program to make you younger overnight. Every patient is different, however, in most cases, you and your friends will notice the difference within weeks.
